The Histadrut calls for restrictions on Gaza to be lifted

The Histadrut (Israeli TUC) has called for Israeli restrictions on Gaza to be lifted "in the shortest possible time frame".

In a statement released on 9 June 2010, the Israeli trade union federation said the current situation was unsustainable from an economic, political and humanitarian perspective.  However the statement adds that the partial blockade should only be lifted on the condition of "real movement" with the peace process. The Histadrut says this can only be achieved if Israel's security is guaranteed along with the "will and commitment of all the parties, including the international community, to alleviate the suffering of all those affected to bring economic progress to Gaza in parallel with genuine moves for fully-fledged democracy and peace.
