The Final Results of the Histadrut Elections

On May 15, 2007, elections for the Histadrut and Na’amat (the biggest women organization in Israel) were taken place. These elections are held every five years and are conducted according to all the rules of democracy.

The Incumbent Chairman, Mr. Ofer Eini, was re-elected by a large majority of 92.5% of the voters. 7.4% of the voters voted for Mr. Leon Beblulu, who headed a list representing the Likud.

Ms. Talia Livni was also re-elected as Na’amat Chairperson.

Hundred of thousands of Histadrut’s members voted for the National Congress of the Histadrut while the female members voted by additional ballot for the National Congress of Na’amat.

The “Oganim” Faction, lead by Chairman Eini, won with a majority of 81.3% for the Histadrut Congress as well as for Na’amat Congress (majority of 83.1%).

The Likud faction won 11.8% of the votes for the Histadrut Congress and 11.1% of the votes for Na’amat Congress whilst the Hadash faction attained 4.6% of the votes for the Histadrut Congress and 5.6% for Na’amat Congress.

Balad faction, which also ran for the Histadrut elections, did not succeed to achieve the required threshold (3%). Consequently, Balad’s votes will be eliminated and the calculation for the Histadrut Congress envoys will be made according to the distribution of the votes of the three lists that have accomplished the threshold.
